British Gas is one of the UK’s leading utility companies. Their Finance function is situated across multiple sites, debt operations being Manchester/Oldham based.
Finance Analyst (2004-2008)
I worked as part of the British Gas Finance team looking after the debtor book. I started as a part qualified accountant managing the operating expenses of the debt operation (circa £30m expenses). Later, I worked as part of a team to rationalise finance processes in preparation for a systems move to SAP and the subsequent migration of work to India.
Sales Operations Manager (2000-2004)
I managed the back office operation for a direct sales team of over 300 advisors. Leading an office team of 40 people, the primary function was to process sales contracts and payroll for the advisor team.
People management, strong operational controls and an ability to work to tight timescales were key skills required.
